About us

RespectPDX is a volunteer-run nonprofit that advocates for respectful and responsible regulation of cell towers and other cellular antenna base stations in Portland, Oregon.

RespectPDX started in the Beaumont Wilshire neighborhood in NE Portland when Clearwire proposed to site a cell tower on NE Fremont Street. Roughly 100 neighbors attended a Neighborhood Association meeting in January (2010) to express their opposition to the proposal. This meeting made it clear that the siting process was not being regulated in a manner that was respectful of neighbors' real concerns.

A core group of neighbors decided to take action by engaging City government and ensuring that we, as a city, are were doing everything we can to minimize the impact of these towers. Since then, the organization has grown to include members from neighborhoods across the City who believe they should have the right to defend their homes and protect their children from the real and potential effects of cell towers.
